With three classes a week, our kickboxing course is designed for all levels. It’s a great way to start out in martial arts – our experienced instructors will teach you all the essentials, helping you to develop:

  • correct body mechanics
  • fundamental boxing and kicking techniques
  • increased flexibility, fitness, strength and confidence

1. I’m not very fit or flexible can I still join?

a. Absolutely! Our instructors are there to guide you and you can take the classes at your own pace. The classes will help you to develop your strength and flexibility gradually and safely.

2. I have no previous experience. Can I join?

a. Everyone’s a beginner to start with! Our friendly instructors and classes are designed to help you and will be there to answer any questions you might have

3. Can I come and watch a class?

a. Sure! Send us a message and let us know when you’re thinking of coming down.

4. What should I wear to training?

a. We practice bare foot and we recommend wearing loose clothing such as T-Shirts and tracksuit trousers. You may wish to bring a towel. Club T-Shirts and kickboxing pants are available for purchase but these are not mandatory.

5. Do I need any special equipment to begin with?

a. Not at all. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn. If you enjoy the classes we recommend buying some gloves of your own. We have a small selection of gloves and sparring equipment at the gym but you are welcome to source your own.

6. I am female. Does this matter?

a. Not at all. The classes are mixed and we have a few female students at present.

7. Do I need to be a member to join?

a. You can start training with us before becoming a member. You simply pay the class fee. Our kickboxing club is part of the Cobra Martial Arts Association and you will need to join once you have decided to train regularly.

8. How much is membership?

a. Membership is just £12 a year

9. How much are classes?

a. £40 per month by Direct Debit

10. How often should I train?

a. As often as you can! We would recommend training twice a week to see consistent improvement but once a week is fine to begin with.

11. Does age, racial or religious background matter?

a. Not at all. We welcome all and we foster an environment where our members to do the same. We treat each other as individuals and with respect.

12. Can I train at other gyms and in other martial arts too?

a. Yes of course. Nobody has a monopoly on the truth. Please train wherever you feel comfortable and wherever you feel helps you improve.

13. Do you do gradings at Union Kickboxing?

a. Yes we have a kickboxing grading system in place and we have grading sessions once ever 4-6 months.

14. Do I have to spar with others in class?

a. No. Sparring isn’t compulsory unless grading at senior levels. At that point we have a sparring program that develops your skills gradually building your confidence as you improve.

15. Do you offer 1-1 training?

a. Yes we do for our existing members. Please speak to your instructor to arrange it.
