Frequently Asked Questions (Kickboxing)
1. What should I bring to my first kickboxing class?
- For your first class, please bring comfortable workout clothes, such as shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. We recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated. We encourage all our students to bring boxing gloves or hand wraps. There are some gloves you can use at the gym but they are shared so it’s always best to have your own.
2. Do I need to be fit to start kickboxing?
- No prior fitness level is required! Our classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, from complete beginners to experienced athletes. Our instructors will guide you through the techniques and help you progress at your own pace.
3. What is the minimum age to join kickboxing classes?
- Our adult kickboxing classes are generally for individuals aged 16 and above. For younger students, please enquire about our youth programmes.
4. Will I get injured?
- Safety is our top priority. Our instructors emphasise proper technique and controlled sparring. We also provide a safe and supportive training environment. Whilst any physical activity carries a small risk, we take precautions to minimise injuries. We encourage our students to train at their own pace.
5. Do I need to buy equipment?
- You don’t need to purchase equipment for your first class. We have loaner gloves and pads available. However, if you plan to continue training, we recommend investing in your own gloves, hand wraps, and shin guards for hygiene and comfort. We can advise you on suitable equipment.
6. What are the benefits of kickboxing?
- Kickboxing offers numerous benefits, including:
- Improved cardiovascular fitness and endurance.
- Increased strength and power.
- Enhanced coordination and agility.
- Stress relief and mental focus.
- Self-defence skills.
- A fun and engaging workout.
7. How long does it take to see results?
- Results vary depending on your consistency and effort. You’ll likely notice improvements in your fitness and technique within a few weeks. Consistent training will lead to significant progress over time.
8. Is sparring mandatory?
- Sparring is an optional and very small part of our kickboxing programme. We prioritise a safe and controlled environment for sparring and 95% of our classes involve training with your partner rather than against your partner! You will only participate when you feel comfortable and ready and sparring is mostly on the Friday evening session.
9. What is the class structure?
- A typical class includes a warm-up, technique instruction, drills, pad work, and a cool-down. Sparring sessions are incorporated for those who wish to participate usually on a Friday session.
10. How often should I attend classes?
- We recommend attending classes 2-3 times per week to see optimal results. However, even attending once a week will provide benefits. We encourage you to find a schedule that works best for you.
